This page is for links to other software packages that can be used in conjunction with VectorWorks. Please provide tips and tricks on how to format the VectorWorks drawing properly for export to these other applications, and/or on how to import information from these applications.

Any DWG to DWF Converter

This is a full featured DWG to DWF converter that allows you to convert DWG and DXF to DWF files. You do not need AutoCAD to use this converter.

Artlantis Render is a unique 3D rendering application ideal for quickly and easily creating very high-quality real-time still images.

To export to Artlantis, rumor has it that exporting to 3DS and then importing the 3DS file into Artlantis is better than using the Artlantis export plug-in for VectorWorks.

eQuest (formerly PowerDOE)

eQUEST® is a sophisticated, yet easy to use, freeware building energy use analysis tool that provides professional-level results with an affordable level of effort. eQUEST was designed to allow you to perform detailed comparative analysis of building designs and technologies by applying sophisticated building energy use simulation techniques but without requiring extensive experience in the "art" of building performance modeling. This is accomplished by combining schematic and design development building creation wizards, an energy efficiency measure (EEM) wizard and a graphical results display module with a complete up-to-date DOE-2 (version 2.2) building energy use simulation program. You can read the eQUEST Overview to get a more complete summary of the features and capabilities of this excellent program.

The VW drawing must contain space objects. The drawing can also contain wall objects, and the walls can contain windows and doors. If the wall objects have an R-value assigned to them, this will be exported and will not have to be assigned within PowerDOE. Same goes for windows and doors.

To export information, use the Export DOE-2 menu item (Architect and Designer only).

This application handles tabular data associated with theatrical lighting.

Developed for the conceptual stages of design, Google SketchUp is a powerful yet easy-to-learn 3D software tool that combines a simple, yet robust tool-set with an intelligent drawing system that streamlines and simplifies 3D design.

Google SketchUp enables you to build and modify 3D models quickly and easily. If you use Google Earth, Google SketchUp allows you to place your models using real-world coordinates and share them with the world using the Google 3D Warehouse.

This application creates 3D polygons that can be imported into VectorWorks Industry Series, via plug-in, for design development.

SketchUp Pro can also export 3D geometry to DWG or DXF files that can then be imported by any VectorWorks version.

Images, 2D DWG sections and elevations can also be exported and then imported to add further drafting, detailing and construction documentation on VectorWorks.

Exporting both 2D geometry or 3D models from VectorWorks to DWG or DXF files and then importing them into SketchUp can be very useful too:

  • 2D VectorWorks drawings can serve as a base for quick 3D modeling.
  • 3D VectorWorks models can be complemented and/or presented in very appealing visual styles.

TouchCAD provides good integration with VectorWorks when it comes to 3D shaping and unfolding/unwrapping complex shapes.

Visual Mill

A powerful package for mold, die and tooling, wood working, rapid-prototyping, and general machining. VectorWorks drawings can be exported in DWG format and then imported to generate the G-code for manufacturing.
